Educators

  • Make personal contact and check in with student one-on-one every day.
  • Be available to students so they feel comfortable dropping in if they need to talk.
  • Communicate caring and positive expectations equally with all students.
  • Create learning circles where students share ideas about important issues
  • Give youth the tools to make healthy decisions and support them in making positive choices
  • Promote rigorous curriculum and high academic achievement for all students
  • Support caregivers with resources to be successful advocates for their children

Community Members

  • Take ownership of the well-being and safety of all children and youth in the community
  • Support and encourage high quality out of school time activities
  • Demonstrate good citizenship, tolerance and positive communication in your own actions and behaviors
  • Adopt the Regional Compact for Children and Youth Business Leaders
  • Include young employees and interns in team meetings and decision making
  • Commit to hiring youth or providing paid and unpaid interns
  • Provide incentives for employees to volunteer, mentor or be involved with youth
  • Partner with educational institutions around theme-based learning Parents and Caregivers
  • Make sure your children are clear about your family values and standards of behavior
  • Set clear expectations and boundaries for your family
  • Know your children’s friends, where your children are and who they are with
  • Eat family meals together – it’s a good time to talk and listen to your children
  • Praise your children for good behaviors and choices
